José Español (ca.1690-1758) is an obscure musician, organist and chapel master of the parish of Santo Tomás from Haro (La rioja), whose works can be compared to the best musicians of the Hispanic baroque period. Nearly 50 of his pieces have been preserved, mostly in the Musical archive of Haro. From all of them, we have selected the pieces addressed to two sopranos with bass accompaniment: four villancicos and a cantata. José Español becomes organist and chapel master of the parish Santo Tomás from Haro around 1731, conserving this position for the rest of his life. The preserved works of the author go from the years 1731 to 1746, while latter works have been lost.
